This undistinguished son of Demetrios II, having disposed of his mother in 121 B.C. embarked on an inglorious reign of a quarter of a century. For much of this time he was at warwith his half-brother, Antiochos IX, and this disastrous perioud witnessed the final decline of the once0mighty Sleukid realm into a minor ast Mediterranean state.
